Dorothy Carney Obituary

West Point- Dorothy Theresa Carney, 91, of State Route 518, passed away peacefully at 11:07am, Thursday, March 26, 2015 at the Salem Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.Mrs. Carney was born July 22, 1923 in Trenton, New Jersey, a daughter of the late Joseph and Rose Roslonski, and had lived most of her adult life in the West Point area. After graduating from high school, Dorothy worked as a secretary for De Laval Steam Turbine Company and then for Eastern Aircraft, a division of General Motors. Later, while working as a civilian secretary at Fort Dix, she met her future husband, Calvin "Cal" Carney. They would have celebrated 69 years of marriage on April 28 of this year. A homemaker and member of St. Agatha's Catholic Church, Dorothy enjoyed singing and playing the piano, as she was invited to play and sing "Ava Maria" at many weddings over the years. She shared her love of playing the piano by teaching all of her grandchildren to play as well. Dorothy also enjoyed speaking Spanish, gardening, and raising flowers. She had a true love of opera music and had wished that she could have been able to study and further enrich her passion for it. Her other interests included being an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirate fan and she enjoyed following NASCAR. Her family will always cherish her kind gentle spirit and will remember her heart of Gold.In addition to her loving husband, Cal, she also leaves behind her daughter, Colleen Ingram and her husband, Eric of Rogers; her son, Kevin Carney and his wife, Teresa of West Point; her brother, Don Roslonski and his wife, Jean of Bricktown, New Jersey; her grandsons, Clinton Paul Carney and his fiancée, Alica George, and Clayton Paul Carney; and her great granddaughter, Brooke Adrienne Carney.Dorothy was also preceded in death by her infant daughter, Rose Mary Carney and her half-sister, Clara Elenski.Private visitation and funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home with Father Robert Edwards officiating. She was laid to rest Monday morning at the Lisbon Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made, if desired, to the American Heart Association. The family would also like to extend their gratitude and sincere appreciation to all of the staff of Salem Regional Medical Center, especially the staff of tower one, for their kindness and exceptional care given to Dorothy.
