Elmer L. Knecht

Lisbon-Elmer L. Knecht, 90, of Robert Rd., passed away peacefully at 4:23am, Thursday, August 3, 2017 at the Vista Center.Mr. Knecht was born February 26, 1927 in Kensington, a son of the late Samuel and Ola Mae (Phillips) Knecht, and had lived in this area all of his life.A 1945 graduate of Carrollton High School, Elmer worked for 32 years at the former E.W. Bliss Company, retiring in 1989. He also farmed on the side, raising Black Angus Cattle.He was a former 4-H advisor and he enjoyed playing golf with the Thursday golf league at Eagle Pass and other area courses with his friends. He and his wife also wintered 31 years in Florida.Elmer also proudly served our country during WWII as a member of the U.S. Navy, being stationed aboard the escort carrier, the U.S.S White Plains.He is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife of 67 years, Ruth (Thomas) Knecht, whom he married November 18, 1949; daughter, Connie Bradley of Lisbon; son, Roger (Beverly) Knecht of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; grandson, Christopher Knecht; step grandsons, James Dailey and Paul Bradley; several great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Lou Weddell.Funeral services will be held at 1pm, Monday, August 7, 2017 at the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home with the Rev. James McKarns officiating.
