Emily Agnes Mercina

Rocky River- Emily Agnes Mercina, 90, formerly of Lisbon, passed away peacefully at 6:16pm, Monday, April 27, 2015 at Sunrise of Rocky River following a recent illness.Mrs. Mercina was born July 14, 1924 in Chester, WV, a daughter of the late Jacob and Sofia (Bednarz) Zagula, and had lived most of her life in Lisbon.A homemaker and avid reader, Emily was a faithful member of St. George Catholic Church, where she was active with the Altar and Rosary Society. She loved to play cards and belonged to several card clubs. She also enjoyed going to flea markets and auctions.Her husband, Thomas F. "Tom" Mercina, Jr., whom she married October 21, 1950, preceded her in death December 14, 2011. She was also preceded in death by her three sisters, Anna, Verna and Stella Zagula, and by her four brothers, Walter, Charles, Francis, and Julian Zagula.Emily is survived and will be dearly remembered by her daughters, Karen Shobert and Frances (David) Ferguson, both of Lakewood, and Nancy (Richard) Brent of North Royalton; son, Paul (Ramona) Mercina of North Canton; sister, Angela Kurty of Toronto, Ohio; sister-in-laws, Mary Mercina of West Point and Frances Valentino of Salem; 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.A funeral mass will be held at 1:30pm, Friday, May 1, 2015 at St. George Catholic Church, 271 West Chestnut Street, Lisbon with Father Robert Edwards officiating.
