Frederick R. Soderstrom

Lisbon- Frederick R. Soderstrom, 84, of Pendleton Street, passed away peacefully at 10:55pm, Monday, December 29, 2014 at East Liverpool City Hospital.Mr. Soderstrom was born April 25, 1930 in Battle Creek, Michigan, a son of the late Thomas R. Soderstrom and the late Lois Stubbins and grew up on the south side of Chicago. At the age of 16, he joined the United State Marine Corp. and began his 26 year decorated career, retiring as a Master Gunnery Sergeant. He served 5 tours in Vietnam, 1 tour in Guam, and 1 tour in Korea. He earned the many medals, including the Navy Commendation Medal for Valor and the RVN MUC Cross of Gallantry. Fred was a member of the Fleet Marine Corp Reserve in New Orleans, LA; life member of VFW Post 3880 in Lake Placid, FL; American Legion Post 25 in Lake Placid; and was a member of the East Side Christian Church of Lake Placid, where he served as a deacon. After he retired from the Marine Corp, Fred worked as an Aviation Maintenance Manager with Lier Siegler.His wife, Judith (Ralston) Soderstron, whom he married in 1990, preceded him in death March 30, 2012.He is survived and will be dearly missed by his step-daughters, Lisa A. Kesssler of Leetonia, Krista K. Cox of Lisbon, Erika L. Zahrndt of Lisbon, and Rebecca J. Zahrndt of New Orleans; sister, Saundra Brown of Ainsworth, TX; and 6 step grandchildren.Funeral services will be held at 1pm, Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home with Pastor Douglas Shoaff of the Lisbon First Christian Church officiating.
