Joseph W. Hoy

Leetonia-Joseph W. Hoy, 74, passed away at 5:45pm, Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at his home. Mr. Hoy was born February 21, 1941 in Lisbon, a son of the late Anthony and Mary (Schuster) Hoy, and had lived most of his life in the area.He served in the U.S. Army as a cryptographer during the Cold War era, stationed in Europe.After graduating from the New Castle School of Trades, Joe worked as an electrician at the former NRM and then Simmers Crane in Salem, retiring in 2005.A former member of the Lisbon First Christian Church, Joe was also a member of the F&AM, Lodge #401 of Leetonia, Eastern Star, Iva Chapter #311, and the Wilfred J. Clunk VFW Post 4111.He is survived by his wife, Cynthia K. (Booth) Hoy, whom he married January 7, 1985; daughters, Beth (Don) DeVault of Monaca, JoAnn (Brian) Weaver of Pittsburgh, and Randi (Steve) Hoy-Rappach of Lisbon; sister, Mary McCartney of Leetonia; 3 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.Mr. Hoy was preceded in death by his sisters, Ethel Shaffer, Edith Hoy, Alice Bach, and Louise Fleming, and brothers, William, Howard, and Ed Hoy. A memorial service will be held at 8pm, Friday, September 18, 2015 (TONIGHT) at the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home with Matt Doerle officiating.The family will receive friends from 6pm until the time of services. A masonic service will be held at 5:45pm.
