SALEM, OH - Walter F. "Zip" McDevitt, of Lisbon, passed away Wednesday morning, March 23, 2016 at the Blossom Nursing Home in Salem following a brief illness. He was 87.Born in Lisbon, April 7, 1928, he was a son of the late Merle and Dorothy McDevitt. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, he was a member of the New Lisbon Lodge #65 of the F & AM, and the First Friends Church in Salem. He worked as a Dragline Operator for Industrial Mining and later worked for 25 years as the director of transportation at Robert Bycroft.He was preceded in death by his wife, Ida M. McDevitt in July of 2000. The couple married February 14, 1948. He was also preceded in death by three sisters Ella, Mary and Doris and two brothers Bill and Harold.Survivors include a daughter, Ann Elizabeth Bendle and her husband, Jeffery, of Bergholz and a son Fred J. McDevitt of East Palestine. There are 2 grandchildren: Ashley Bendle and Jacob Bendle.He is also survived by a sister Barbara Carlisle of Leetonia.Friends may visit Friday afternoon and evening at the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home where the family will be present from 3 to 7 p.m. A Masonic Service will be conducted at the funeral home Friday at 7 p.m.A private graveside service will be held Saturday at Highland Memorial Park in Beloit where the Salem Amvets will conduct military honors.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the David Anderson High School Athletic Hall of Fame, in care of Rick Pittenger, 7433 Elmwood Drive, Lisbon, Ohio 44432.
