Wilbur "Bill" Bergert

Lisbon-Wilbur "Bill" Bergert, 91, of State Route 517, passed away at 6:45am, Monday, April 18, 2016 at the Vista Center of complications related to cancer.Mr. Bergert was born February 25, 1925 in Canton, Ohio, a son of the late Clyde and Lillian (Wiese) Bergert. Bill had lived in Lisbon since November 1956, when he married Marilyn.A graduate of the former Lincoln High School, Bill worked as a sales representative for American Standard of Cleveland for 30 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the William McKinley Lodge #431 F&AM; the Scottish Rite Valley of Cincinnati; and the Syrian Shrine Temple of Cincinnati; was a former member of the John J. Welsh American Legion Post #275; and was an avid bowler.Mr. Bergert was a former active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, where he had served as an elder, trustee, financial secretary and treasurer until 1998, when he became a member of the New Lisbon Presbyterian Church.Bill also proudly served our country during WWII as a member of the U.S. Army Air Corp.He is survived by his wife of 59 years, the former Marilyn J. Peterson; daughter, Jane L. Carroll of Greenville, South Carolina; sons, Robert L. (Kathy) Miller of Jacksonville, Florida, James S. (Pauline) Bergert of Alphretta, Georgia, Daniel L. (Ellen) Bergert of Jackson; 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brothers, Glenn and Jack Bergert; son, Peter Miller; and son-in-law, Larry Carroll.Funeral services will be held at 11am, Thursday, April 21, 2016 at the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home with Rev. Fritz Nelson officiating.
