Don U. Sowards Jr.

East Palestine-Don U. Sowards, Jr., 69, of Covington Drive, passed away at 2:33am, Saturday, September 15, 2018 at the Salem Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness.Mr. Sowards was born December 10, 1948 in Salem, a son of the late Don U. and Irene (Lovejoy) Sowards, and had lived most of his life in the New England area, moving to Columbiana County in 2009.A graduate of Mount Union College, Don worked as a Financial Advisor for 25 years with AIG, retiring in 2008.Don was a U.S. Army veteran, having served stateside during the end of the Vietnam War. He was also a private pilot and member of the Negley Masonic Lodge.He is survived by his brother-in-law, Francis Possage of Lisbon; niece, Renee (Tim) Smith of Lisbon; great niece, Halie Smith of Lisbon; and several cousins.In addition to his parents, Don was also preceded in death by his wife, Florence "Flo" Sowards, and his sister, Frances K. Possage.Funeral services will be held at 7pm, Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Simms officiating.
