Guilford Lake- Donald W. Arter, 68, of Lakeview Drive, passed away peacefully at 9:35pm, Friday, March 2, 2018 at his home with his family and his beloved dog, Madeleine Murphy by his side.Mr. Arter was born October 19, 1949 in Salem, Ohio, a son of the late Perry E. and Nana (Ward) Arter Petrick, and had lived his entire life in the Lisbon area.Don worked as an electrician at Eljer's in Salem for 20 years, then at Phillips Manufacturing, and then five years at Compco, retiring in 2015.He was a member of St. Jacob's United Church of Christ; Order of Eastern Star, Iva Chapter #311; Grand Lodge of Ohio, New Lisbon Lodge #65, where he was recognized for 25 years of service to Capitular Masonary; Salem Commandery, #42, Knights Templar; The Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Ohio, Chapter #92; Grand Council Royal & Select Masons of Ohio, Omega Council #44; and Supreme Council Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite 32 degree. Don also was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting and fishing. In his spare time, he loved to garden and work out in his yard.He also was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran, having served during Vietnam.He is survived and will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Deborah K. (Carney) Arter, whom he married August 30, 1975; his daughter, Rebecca "Becky" Arter of Canton; his son, Adam (Erin) Arter of Lagrange, Ohio; his sisters, Bessie Kellner of North Lima and Darleen Wheeler of Las Vegas, Nevada; his brother, Paul (Linda) Arter of Lisbon; his grandson, Adam Arter of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and several beloved nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Donna Arter and brother-in-law, David Wheeler.Funeral services will be held at 11am, Monday, March 5, 2018 at the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home with Pastor Jess Adkins officiating.
