Reese Lewis Obituary

Lisbon- Reese J. "Sonny" Lewis, 78, of State Route 45, passed away peacefully at 9:22pm, Thursday, January 25, 2018 at his home. He was born July 21, 1939 in York, PA; the son of the late Reese and Harriet (Mooney) Lewis and had lived in the Lisbon area most of his life.A graduate of Lisbon David Anderson High School, Reese served in the U.S. Army. After he was discharged, Sonny began working at the former Kaiser Refractories in Columbiana. After 8 years at Kaiser, he then went to work for Harry Coalmer, at the former Coalmer Tire Company in Lisbon, as a salesman for their wholesale tire business, developing a network of tire dealers throughout Northeastern Ohio, specializing in Tube, Tire, Wheels and tire studding equipment. As time went by, he left Coalmer's and began working with his cousin, Ray Lewis, selling industrial pumps, hoses and accessories throughout Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania to the growing coal industry, helping make Ray Lewis and Company, one of Ohio's largest industrial equipment distributors.Sonny loved horses all his life and considered himself an avid horseman. He created Lewis Standard Bred Horses, where he raced, owned, and worked many horses over the last 20 years. He considered this his favorite hobby. He enjoyed traveling most especially to Florida, Kinzua Dam, and fishing and boating on Lake Erie with Sherrie and his numerous friends. He was also a life member of the Lisbon Eagles.Sonny is survived and will be dearly remembered by his loving companion of 31 years, Sherrie Johnson of Lisbon; nephew, Trib LaPrade of Jacksonville, Florida; and several cousins.In addition to his parents, Sonny was preceded in death by his sister, Rosena LaPrade. Sonny was a former member of the Episcopal Church and was currently attending Christ the King Anglican Church in Columbiana. The family will receive friends from 4pm to 6pm, Saturday, February 3, 2018 at the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home, where a memorial service will immediately follow with Father Lee Martin officiating. Being a strong advocate for animal welfare, Sonny's wishes were for memorial contributions to be made to the Columbiana County Humane Society.Friends may also view Sonny's memorial tribute page and send condolences at www.eells-leggett-stauffer.com Sonny wished to say "goodbye" to everyone he knew, and to let all of you know, "It was a great trip".
