Lisbon-Thomas Clay "Tom" Poynter, 52, of Rose Drive, passed away Monday afternoon at the Cleveland Clinic following a lengthy illness.Tom was born March 23, 1966 in Salem, a son of the late Clifford A. Poynter and Janet (Wilt) Jones of Gallipolis, Ohio, and had lived all of his life in the Lisbon area.A 1984 graduate of Lisbon David Anderson High School, Tom had worked at Walmart as a stocker, and he enjoyed fishing and building and driving demolition derby cars.He is survived by his wife, Paula (Stewart) Poynter, whom he married July 13, 1985; siblings, Brenda (Rick) Counts, Clifford (Mary) Poynter, Carl Poynter, Joe Cross, Dominic (Tammy) Cross, Cheryl Bennett, and Lester (Kim) Poynter; half-sister, Becky Jones; half-brother, Roland Jones; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.In addition to his father, Tom was also preceded in death by his step-brother, Timmy Cross.The family will receive guests from 5pm to 8pm, Friday at the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home.
