West Point-James C. “Jim” Cope, 78, passed away peacefully at 10:46pm, Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Jim was born April 16, 1945 in Salem and was a son of the late Edward K. and Hazel Faye (Vale) Cope.
A lifelong resident of the area, he worked in the mining industry for over 25 years working with various local mining companies. Following his retirement from the mining industry, he worked 11 years in maintenance at Quaker Castings, retiring in 2009.
Jim was Catholic by faith.
His wife, Martha S. “Marty” (Chestnut) Cope, whom he married September 19, 1964, preceded him in death on March 19, 2000. Jim was also preceded in death by his sisters, Katherine Vogle and Caroline Adams; and his brother, Bob Cope.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, Teresa A. (Kevin) Carney of Lisbon, sons, Mark C. (Stephanie) Cope of Calcutta, and Matthew J. (Nicole) Cope of South Carolina; brothers, Ken (Joann) Cope of Columbiana and Richard Cope of East Fairfield; sister-in-law, Karen Cope of Lisbon; grandchildren, Clint Carney and Clay (Kelly) Carney and Cole, Hannah, and Jake Cope; and his great grandchildren, Brooke Carney and Carson Carney.
Jim wanted to express his appreciation to the folks at Discount Drugmart for always providing him with American made pharmaceuticals and Dr. Fredrickson and his staff for all of their great care over the years.
Following his wishes, no calling hours or funeral services will be observed.
