James Dailey, Sr. Obituary

Columbiana-James A. Dailey, Sr., 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at Hospice of the Valley’s Hospice House with his family at his side.

Jim was born February 10, 1938 in Clarkson, Ohio; a son of the late William N. and Estella (McCoy) Dailey and had lived most of his life in Columbiana.

A 1956 graduate of Columbiana High School, Jim began working at Rohr Builders Supply shortly after high school, then went to work at GM Lordstown as a “Ding Man”, working in body repair, retiring after 40 plus years of faithful service.

Jim or as he was affectionately known around Lisbon as “George”, was a member of the Mahoning Valley Knife Club, the Beaver Creek Sportsman’s Club and the UAW local 1112.  Jim was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He also liked to visit Hollywood Casino and Mountaineer on occasion.  He loved to watch all high school sports and faithfully attended while his children, grandson and great grandchildren participated and later coached.  George also collected knives, guns, hats, and cast-iron frying pans.  Jim also loved watching old westerns, racing Jeeps, car cruises, car shows, and gardening.

His wife, Diane June (Wise) Dailey, whom he married May 25, 1957, preceded him in death on May 25, 2007.  Jim was also preceded in death by his brothers, Edward L., William D., Harry G., John, Robert F. Dailey.

He is survived and will be dearly missed by his daughter, Vickie L. Dailey of Columbiana; sons, James A. Dailey, Jr. of Port St. Lucie, Florida and Richard A. (Lynn) Dailey of Lisbon; grandson, Richard A. Dailey, Jr. of Lisbon; step grandchildren, Jonah and Leah Murray of Palm Bay, Florida; great grandchildren, McKenna, Austin, Hunter and Brooklyn Dailey; sister-in-law, Evelyn Dailey of Columbiana; brothers-in-law, Alan (Maryann) Wise of Mount Juliet, Tennessee and Dennis (Criss) Wise of East Liverpool, as well as many nieces and nephews, and his beloved wiener dog, Festus.

Funeral services will be held at 11am, Saturday, May 3, 2025 at the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home with Dana Blackburn officiating.  Burial will follow at the Columbiana Cemetery.
