Janis Ann Steitz

Lisbon-Janis Steitz, 87, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Janis was born July 1, 1938 in Lisbon, a daughter of the late Harry F. and Grace (Klein) Lederle and had lived her entire life in Lisbon.

A 1956 graduate of Lisbon David Anderson High School, she studied art at both Mount Union College and then at Kent State University.  Her first job was at the Lisbon swimming pool.  Janis worked in the Columbiana County Auditor’s Office for 30 plus years, retiring on January 31, 2002.

She was a member of the former Trinity Presbyterian Church and the New Lisbon Presbyterian Church. Janis also enjoyed volunteering at the former Help Center in Lisbon.  Her family was the most important part of her life.  Her artistic abilities and her creativity we always on full display with any family gathering.  To her the food was secondary, it was the decorations that made the event special.

She is survived and will be dearly missed by her daughter, Cassie (Ron Gallo) Steitz of Lisbon; son, Timothy (the late Heidi) Steitz of Powell, Ohio; sister, Diane Dull of Lisbon; grandchildren, Lindsay ( Bradley) Chandler, Carlie (Alec) Beech, Chad (Carly) Bosel, Kenzie (Lucas Cooper) Steitz, Ben (Emerson Arena) Steitz, Kaliegh (Travis) Warren and family, Isabella Gallo, and Gio Gallo; 13 great grand pets; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death on March 16, 2010 by her husband, Carl E. Steitz, whom she married in 1959.

A memorial service celebrating Janis’ life will be held at 11am, Friday, July 10, 2026 at the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home with Phil Bartholomew officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Lisbon Cemetery.

The family will receive guests from 10 am until the time of the services Friday at the funeral home.
