Lisbon- Jo Anne Berry, 89, of Whispering Pines, formerly of Lisbon, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 16, 2025 at Mercy Health’s Hospice of the Valley’s Hospice House of Poland following a lengthy illness.
Jo Anne was born December 31, 1935 in Parkersburg, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Arthur and Mariam (Bulmer) Smith and had lived in the area most of her life.
A 1953 graduate of East Liverpool High School, Joanne worked as a billing clerk for the former Bacon and Cibula Clinic and later as a bank teller at Huntington Bank, where she retired in 1998.
She was a faithful member of the Lisbon First United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and played in the church’s bell choir. She was also a member of United Methodist Women.
Jo Anne loved music, especially the piano and violin. She also was an amateur photographer and enjoyed sewing and crocheting. But what she treasured the most was spending time with her family.
Her husband, Karl Dean Berry, whom she married April 14, 1961, preceded her in death on June 26, 2013. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Arthur “Kenny” Smith, Phillip Smith and Daniel Smith.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Kella J. (Gary) Haren of Lisbon; sons, Steve (Holli) Berry of Dublin, Ohio and Tom (Patty) Watson of Glenmoor; brother, Robert “Bob” (Kandi) Smith of Cambridge, Ohio; grandchildren, Justin (Thara), Matt, Nate (Richelle), Josh (Amanda), Brooke (Cory), Ben (Kylie) Patrick (Evelina), Sara (fiancé, Dominic), Blake (fiancé, Cameron) and Boston; 10 great grandchildren with one on the way; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Thursday, February 20, 2025 at the Lisbon First United Methodist Church, 114 East Washington Street, Lisbon, Ohio with April Smith officiating. Burial will follow at the Lisbon Cemetery.
The family will receive friends and family from 4pm to 6pm Wednesday at the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home and from 10am until the time of services Thursday at the church.
