Hanoverton- Mary Jane Vance, 84, passed away on Friday, April 3, 2026 at the Salem Regional Medical Center following a recent illness.
Mary Jane was born May 22, 1941 in Alliance, Ohio, a daughter of the late Clarence and Freda (Mylar) Steffy and had lived all of her life in the area.
A graduate of Alliance High School, she was a bus driver for United Local School district for 26 years and most recently had worked as a delivery driver for the former Kiewall Florist.
Mary Jane was a very active and faithful member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church, where she filled many roles within the church. She enjoyed gardening, embroidering, and working outside. She took great pride in her home and could often be found mowing her yard and weeding her flower beds.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Adam M. Johnson on September 1, 1996 and by her second husband, Allen R. Vance on October 30, 2021. Mary Jane was also preceded in death by her two brothers, Rev. Donald Steffy and William Steffy.
She is survived and will be dearly missed by her children, Betsy (Gary) Kosko, Chuck (Terri) Johnson, and Bob (Laura) Johnson; step-children, Patricia (Bob) Carl, Tami Nichols, and Terri Vance; 13 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm, Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at Bethesda Presbyterian Church, 13461 Bethesda Rd., Hanoverton, Ohio with Pastor Tom Allmon officiating. Private burial will follow at the Fairmount Memorial Park in Alliance.
The family will receive family and friends from 11am until the time of services at the church on Wednesday.
