Lisbon-Michael “Mike” Pozenel, 72, passed away Monday, July 22, 2024 at the Cleveland Clinic following a lengthy illness that he battled courageously.
Mike was born June 24, 1952 in Salem, a son of the late Jack and Brigetta (Zaplata) Pozenel and was a life resident of the area.
A graduate of Beaver Local High School, Mike attended Miami University (Ohio) and was the owner of the Pozenel Insurance Agency in Lisbon for 43 years, retiring in 2016.
He was a faithful member of the New Lisbon Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder and a Trustee.
Mike was also a past president of the Lisbon Touchdown Club and helped start the Chili Open Golf Tournament Fundraiser. He was a 50-year member of the West Point/Lisbon Grange; served as secretary/treasurer of Lisbon bowling and golf leagues for many years; had a high bowling average at Lisbon Holiday Lanes and high 3 game series of 827 at Columbiana Lanes. Mike enjoyed coaching his sons in junior baseball as well as sponsoring many local sports teams throughout the area. He and his wife also shared a passion for travel and had visited all 50 states and Europe. Mike was also a lifelong Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan.
He is survived and will be deeply missed by his devoted wife of 48 years, April (Apple) Pozenel, whom he married May 1, 1976; his sons and their wives, Lucas and Amanda Pozenel and Logan and Allison Pozenel; his grandson, Jacob Pozenel; brother-in-law, John Shulas; nephews, Michael and Kevin Shulas; niece, Tara Shulas; as well as several other nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mike was also preceded in death by his brother, Jack Pozenel, and by his sister, Sandra Shulas.
Private visitation and funeral service were held at the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home for Mike’s family. Interment followed at the Lisbon Cemetery.
