Lisbon- Roger W. Joy, Sr., 75, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving wife and family.
Roger was born February 28, 1949 in Wellsville, a son of the late Dale and Evelyn Catherine (Fowler) Joy and had been a life resident of the area.
A 1968 graduate of Wellsville High School, he worked as a plasterer and drywall finisher for Paul Long Construction.
Roger was a faithful member of the Bethel Presbyterian Church where he served as a trustee. He was an avid reader and enjoyed volunteering with the Salineville Food Bank and also volunteered at Southern Local High School.
Roger proudly served our country as a member of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
He is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife, Glenda (Powell) Joy, whom he married April 15, 1972; daughter, Shila Gfeller of Salineville; son, Roger Joy, Jr. of Lisbon; sister, Jewel Mason of Alabama; brothers, Jim Joy of East Liverpool, Ernie (Joyce) Joy of Wellsville, Ray Joy of Wellsville, and Richard (Judy) Joy of Lisbon; grandchildren, Jerred (Erin) Gfeller, Quinton Gfeller, Madison (Justin) Gfeller Clark; and great granddaughter, Kinsley Gfeller.
In addition to his parents, Roger was also preceded in death by his sister, Marie Quarterman; and by his brothers, Edgar, Dave, Tom, Curt, and Fred Joy.
A memorial service celebrating Roger’s life will be held at 6pm, Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at the Bethel Presbyterian Church with Pastor Terri Swails of the church officiating. Private burial will take place at the Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
The family will receive family and friends from 5pm to 6pm Wednesday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions in Roger’s name be made to the Salineville Food Bank, 34 A Washington Street, Salineville, Ohio 43945.
