Sheila Bowman Obituary

Leetonia-Sheila (Poe) Bowman, 84, quietly passed away Friday, December 20, 2024 at Caprice Healthcare Center following a recent illness.

Sheila was born July 5, 1940 in East Liverpool, Ohio, a daughter of the late Lester and Mary (Carter) Poe and had lived in Leetonia most of her life.

A 1958 graduate of East Liverpool High School, Sheila furthered her education by studying for 2 years at business school.  Prior to marriage, she worked as a bookkeeper at the former Genuine Auto Parts in East Liverpool.

Sheila was a dedicated and talented gardener who spent her life cultivating beauty and sharing her passion for plants, specifically Dahlias. She founded the Nature Lover’s Garden Club, participated in the Blue Star Marker program honoring veterans, and was active in the Ohio Judges Council, East Liverpool and Mahoning Valley Dahlia Society, and Ikebana.

She was particularly proud of her work as a judge at county fairs, where she encouraged others to appreciate the art and joy of gardening. Her love for dahlias and gardening was an inspiration to all who knew her.

She was the beloved wife of Willis Bowman, whom she married May 22, 1960.  Together they shared 64 memorable years of marriage.

Sheila was the proud mother of Steve (Mary Jane) Bowman of Picayune, Mississippi, and the cherished grandmother of John (Maria) Bowman, of Covington, Louisiana. She is also survived by her brother, Richard Poe, and her nephew, Douglas Poe, both of Pasadena, Texas.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her grandson, Alex Bowman; her daughter-in-law, Teresa Bowman; and her sister-in-law, Brenda Poe.

A celebration of Sheila’s life will be held later, with details to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Sheila’s memory to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Sheila will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home.
