Shirley H. Steele

Lisbon- Shirley H. Steele, 90, of North Street, passed away at 12:53 am, Monday, August 4, 2014 at Blossom Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a lengthy illness.Mrs. Steele was born March 26, 1924 in Washingtonville, Ohio, a daughter of the late William and Rhoda (Bosert) Hannahan. After high school, she attended the Youngstown Business College.Shirley worked as a secretary for General Electric in Erie, Pa., the Columbiana County Farm Bureau and the Worthington Company in Cleveland until the birth of her first child.She was an Elder and member of the New Lisbon Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Steele also served as church secretary for 12 years and had sang in the church choir. She was an active member of the Senior SwimmersShe is survived and will be dearly missed by her husband of nearly 66 years, Alfred "Fred" Steele, whom she married August 8, 1948; daughter, Paula (Chris Baker) Steele of Columbus; sons, Dr. Carl Wayne (Bonnie) Steele of Port Clinton, OH, Mark (Candice) Steele of Decatur, Ga., and Tod (Tracey) Steele of Columbus and granddaughter, Hannah Steele.Shirley was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Henry "Hank" Borch and brother and sister-in-law, William and Jean Hannahan.A private memorial service will be held for the family Saturday afternoon at the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home. Private burial will take place at the Lisbon Cemetery.The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation from 11am to 1pm Saturday at the funeral home.The family suggests memorial contributions to the New Lisbon Presbyterian Church, Hospice of the Valley, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
