Hanoverton- Shirley Ann Thompson, 95, passed away quietly Sunday, May 5, 2024 at Calcutta Health Care Center following a brief illness.
Mrs. Thompson was born December 12, 1928 in Lisbon, Ohio, a daughter of the late Cyrus Alexander Rowley and the late Mable (Benner) Rowley and had been a life resident of the area.
A graduate of Lisbon David Anderson High School, she was a homemaker, and she helped her husband operate their family farm.
Shirley was a member of the Bethel Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school for 65 years, served as the Sunday school treasurer, and was a member of the Women’s Missionary Society.
She and her husband also enjoyed square dancing and were members of the Salem Square Wheels. She also loved gardening, tending to her flowers, travelling, wintering in Arizona, and riding her four-wheeler around the farm.
Her husband, Harold James Thompson, whom she married October 22, 1947, preceded her in death on October 17, 2016.
She is survived by her children, David Harold Thompson, Diane (Janis) Baltputnis, and Lynnelle (Elmer) Zimmerman; 3 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was also preceded in death by her son, James Edward Thompson; sisters, Charlene Mae Rice, Lucille Chestnut, Janet Hayes, and Evelyn June Rowley.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Saturday, May 11, 2024 at the Bethel Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Terri Swails officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm, Friday at the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home and from 10am to 11am Saturday at the church.
