Thelma Adams Obituary

Lisbon-Thelma Adams, 100, passed away Thursday, October 10, 2024 at Whispering Pines Village with her son, Donny by her side.

Mrs. Adams was born August 19, 1924 in New Waterford, a daughter of the late John W. and Pauline (Henning) Hawkins and had moved to Lisbon following her marriage to Don.

Thelma was a graduate of New Waterford High School and Youngstown State University and had been the bookkeeper for the family business, Adams Excavating, since 1945. She also worked as a teller at the former New Waterford Bank for many years.

Thelma was a faithful, active life member of the East Fairfield United Methodist Church, always lending a hand wherever it was needed. She was a member of the Loyal Workers Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women, where she served as treasurer for 41 years as well as serving on the church board.  Thelma was also a member of the Lisbon Historical Society, worked in the extension office at the Columbiana County Fair, belonged to a local snowmobiling club; was a member of the Elkrun-Fairfield Friendly Homemakers for many years; was an avid traveler and camper, and member of Billy Bob Campers Club, and had camped all across the country.

Her husband, Donald E. Adams, whom she married September 8, 1945, preceded her in death on October 31, 1995.  She was also preceded in death by her son, Jerry L. Adams, daughter, Louann Kay Adams, brother, Dwain Hawkins, sister-in-law, Jean Ann Cook, and brother-in-law, Dean Adams.

She is survived and will be dearly missed by her sons, Donny Adams and his fiancée, Heather Holloway of Lisbon and Kevin Adams of El Salvador; sister, Evelyn (Jess) Thomas of Apple Creek, Ohio; grandchildren, Preston (Molly) Adams, Spencer Adams, and Kevin (Susanna) Adams; great grandchildren, Ember and Fox Adams; her late son, Jerry’s longtime companion, Elaine McEndree of Negley,  as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm, Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at the East Fairfield United Methodist Church, 45675 State Route 558, New Waterford, Ohio 44445.  Burial will follow at the Lisbon Cemetery.

The family will receive guests from 11am until the time of services Wednesday at the church.
